How to Cancel Duolingo Super (Plus) Subscription

Cancel Duolingo Super on iPhone, Android, or web. What you lose when you go back to the free plan and whether Duolingo is still useful without it.

Duolingo Super (previously called Duolingo Plus) costs $6.99/month or $83.99/year. It removes ads, adds offline mode, and provides a few extra features. The free version of Duolingo is fully functional for language learning — so many people find the paid tier unnecessary once the novelty of an ad-free experience fades. Here's how to cancel.

1

How to Cancel Duolingo Super on iPhone (App Store)

Most Duolingo Super subscriptions are purchased through the iOS App Store. To cancel: open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then "Subscriptions". Find "Duolingo" in the list and tap it, then tap "Cancel Subscription" and confirm. Your Super access continues until the end of the billing period. If you bought through Duolingo's website instead of the App Store, you won't see it here — use the web cancellation method.

2

How to Cancel Duolingo Super on Android (Google Play)

Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then "Payments & subscriptions" → "Subscriptions". Find Duolingo in the list and tap "Cancel subscription". Your Super features remain active until the billing period ends. If you subscribed through Duolingo's website or the Duolingo for Schools program, you need to cancel directly on duolingo.com.

3

How to Cancel Duolingo Super on the Web

Go to duolingo.com and sign in on a desktop browser. Click your profile icon, then "Settings" → "Super Duolingo" or "Manage subscription". Click "Cancel subscription" and follow the prompts. Duolingo may offer a discounted rate before confirming. Your free account and all your progress, streaks, and XP are completely unaffected by cancelling the paid tier.

Is Duolingo Still Useful Without Super?

Yes — the core language learning content on Duolingo is identical on both free and paid tiers. You get the same lessons, stories, and speaking exercises. The main differences on the free plan: you see ads between lessons, you have a limited number of "hearts" (mistake allowances) per session on mobile, and you don't have offline mode. If you have a consistent Wi-Fi connection and can tolerate ads, the free plan is fully capable of getting you to your language learning goals. The Super subscription is most valuable for heavy daily users who find the ad interruptions disruptive.
